Ulsan Hyundai will play in next season s Asian Champions League.
Ulsan clinched the place after a dramatic 3-1 penalty shootout victory over Suwon Bluewings in Wednesday s K-League playoff second round clash.
The match, at Suwon World Cup Stadium, had ended 1-1 after 120 minutes of play, before going to penalties where Bluewings trio Yeom Ki-Hun, Yang Sang-Min and Choi Sung-Hwan all missed.
Earlier, big striker Kim Shin-Wook had converted Lee Jae-Sung s 23rd-minute pass, before Suwon levelled late through Croatian defender Mato Neretljak s spotkick, after Ulsan keeper Kim Young-Kwang fouled Oh Jang-Eun.
Hyundai, who finished the regular season in sixth, now face Pohang Steelers in the semi-final for the right to play in the two-legged decider against Jeonbuk Motors.
Ulsan boss Kim Ho-Gon said: It was a tough game as we expected but the players gave their all.
We held our nerve and fought until the end and now we have to prepare for the next game which will be just as hard.
Ulsan, who also won the K-League Cup this year, have not competed in the ACL since 2009, when they failed to advance from the group stage.
The result ends a season of disappointment for Suwon, who lost the FA Cup final, as well as falling in the semi-finals of the ACL.
