Looking to make a welcomed return to winning ways in the early hours of Sunday, Inter Miami will travel to Philadelphia this weekend.
Philadelphia Union
Starting with the hosts, while Philadelphia might have come flying out of the traps when opening up the 2024 campaign, the Union have largely struggled with their consistency over recent times. Left frustrated last week as they eventually had to settle for a 2-2 stalemate at home against Montreal, Jim Curtin’s men have now registered just a single victory from any of their previous 10 MLS appearances. With that extended wobble stemming all the way back to a 2-1 win against Nashville on April 7th, Philadelphia have also continued to show some glaring issues on home soil. Along with mustering just a sole MLS victory at Subaru Park so far this season, Curtin’s downbeat squad have also collected just two points from any of their last five MLS appearances in front of their own supporters.
Team News
Shown a second-half red card against Montreal last week, Philadelphia will be unable to call upon 28-year-old midfielder Jack Elliot here. Not making a single appearance since the start of May, Jamaican international goalkeeper Andre Blake remains on the sidelines and will not feature in the early hours of Sunday.
In what is a major blow for the Union, Daniel Gazdag has been included in Hungary’s squad for this summer’s European Championships and will not feature for at least a couple of weeks. Recording five MLS strikes so far this season, former Brondby striker Mikael Uhre will spearhead Philadelphia’s charge.
Inter Miami
As for the visitors, while Inter Miami might have only collected a pair of victories from any of their previous five MLS appearances, the Herons have gained a fearsome reputation since opening up the 2024 campaign. Opening this weekend’s fixtures holding a two-point buffer at the top of the Eastern Conference table and tipped as a leading title contender, Gerardo Martino’s men will be looking to make another statement here. Suffering just a single defeat from any of their previous 12 straight MLS outings, the former Barcelona boss will be excited by his side’s continued success away from the Chase Stadium. Last seen on their travels collecting a 2-1 victory against Vancouver, Inter Miami have registered 13 points from their previous five showdowns outside of Fort Lauderdale a run that stems back to March 23rd.
Team News
Away with Argentina at this summer’s Copa America and looking to make more history, Inter Miami will be without the services of seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi this weekend. However, not part of Uruguay’s squad this month and already recording 12 MLS goals so far this season, former Barcelona superstar Luis Suarez will lead the Herons’ charge.
Yet to make a single appearance across any competition since opening up the 2024 campaign, USA international Robbie Robinson remains on the sidelines. Likewise, Parguay international Diego Gomez will not travel to Philadelphia in the early hours of Sunday.
